After years of resisting touch, Apple is rumoured to be working on touchscreen Macs

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly working on Macs with touchscreen.

Although there's no guarantee that Apple will eventually launch a touchscreen Mac – Apple has scrapped projects before – Gurman thinks we could see a touchscreen MacBoook Pro as soon as 2025.

He says that model would have an OLED display, which would be different from the current models that use mini-LED displays.

Gurman also says that this touchscreen MacBook Pro would look similar to existing models and that it would have a keyboard and trackpad. The only difference is that its display would support touch inputs.

If these rumours are true, it would be a rather dramatic u-turn for Apple. The company has famously resisted touchscreen for Macs for years with Steve Jobs famously saying that "touch surfaces don't want to be vertical."

In addition, for touchscreen Macs to work, Apple would have to give macOS a rather thorough makeover. The current iteration of macOS has rather small icons and buttons which is ideal for touch interaction at all.
