Apple rumoured to add AR content to its video streaming service in 2021

Augmented reality (AR) content is reportedy coming to Apple TV+ in 2021.

People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the AR content will have elements of a TV show such as characters or objects be displayed on the iPhone or iPad and overlaid onto the real-world environment. The AR feature is described as a bonus content similar to the director's commentary or trailer.

The AR feature was initially planned for release this year, but the Covid-19 outbreak affected software development and film production. It is one of the several initiatives by Apple to make its video streaming service more valuable and get consumers to subscribe.

The AR content will debut a year earlier than the rumoured AR/VR headset, which is said to be focused on gaming, video consumption and virtual meetings. Apple is also believed to be working on a pair of digital glasses.
