Apple rumored to use thinner display panels for 2020 iPhone Pro models

Apple is rumored to be using thinner OLED displays for the 2020 iPhone lineup.

Korean publication ETNews claims that Samsung Display will be the main supplier of the thinner display panels for the 5.4-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone models. The thinner display panels, also known as on-cell touch flexible OLED panels, will use Samsung's Y-OCTA technology to place touchscreen circuitry on the panel without the need for a separate layer. This results in a thinner display panel and lower production costs.

As for the 6.1-inch iPhone model, Apple is reportedly engaging the assistance of Samsung Display and LG Display to supply the traditional film-based display panels.

DigiTimes reported in April that the 2020 iPhone models would sport OLED panels in 5.42-inches, 6.06-inches and 6.67-inches. It also shared that the 5.4-inch iPhone ilikely to be using Samsung's Y-OCTA panel. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo followed up with a similar report in June. Aside from thinner display panels, the 2020 iPhones could come with 120Hz ProMotion displays.
