Apple rumored to unveil a metal 4-inch iPhone model with A9 chipset in 2016

Apple may release a new 4-inch iPhone model in 2016. The last 4-inch model was the iPhone 5S.

Although Apple did not release a new 4-inch iPhone model this year, it is said to be planning for one in 2016.

According to well-connected KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple acknowledged that there is demand for a 4-inch iPhone model and will release one next year. Kuo believes the new model to be a buffed iPhone 5s model, which means that we won't see a successor to the "unapologetically plastic" iPhone 5c.

He also expects the new 4-inch iPhone model to be powered by the A9 chipset and lacks the 3D Touch feature so as to differentiate it from the iPhone 7 lineup. Mass production is reportedly starting in the first half of 2016.

Numerous reports earlier this year suggested that Apple would be releasing an iPhone 6c this year, but it didn't happen. Economic Daily News and analysts at Jefferies claimed that the 4-inch model would debut in Q1 2016 while DigiTimes reported that it would come in Q2 2016 with a 14 or 16nm chipset.
