Apple reserving the iPhone 7 name for next year's model
This year's iPhone may not be called the iPhone 7 after all.
An anonymous tipster informed VentureBeat that the iPhone 7 name is reserved for the 2017 iPhone and suggested that the 2016 models are likely to continue to use the iPhone 6 moniker. The source also confirmed an earlier report that Apple is shifting to a three-year refresh cycle for the iPhone, and that the 2017 iPhone is most likely sporting a glass back.
VentureBeat's report comes shortly after the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) mentioned that this year's iPhone will not have any major design changes. The WSJ also corroborated that the 3.5mm headphone jack will be removed and the 2017 iPhone adopting an edge-to-edge OLED display with an embedded fingerprint sensor.
