Apple reportedly cuts iPhone 14 production by three million units

Weak consumer demand has reportedly forced Apple to cut production of the iPhone 14.

People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg Apple has lowered production of the iPhone 14 by three million units. The iPhone maker had an initial target of 90 million units for the rest of the year. The sources added that the lower production is due to "softer demand" for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and demand for the Pro models remains strong.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus did not have a good start. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims pre-orders for the two models were worse than the iPhone SE (2022) and iPhone 13 mini. ITHome reported Foxconn has been instructed to shut down at least five production lines that are manufacturing the iPhone 14.

When the iPhone 14 Plus went on sale in October, DigiTimes said the initial sales figures were "lower than expected". A recent Covid-19 outbreak at an assembly plant in Zhengzhou forced Apple to confirm iPhone 14 Pro models will be in limited supply this holiday season due to the temporary impact on operations.
