Apple reportedly cut production of AirPods due to declining sales

Apple may be cutting production of its AirPods for the rest of the year.

Sources familiar with the matter told Nikkei Asia that stiff competition from Samsung, Xiaomi and other rivals led to a decline in sales of the AirPods. Apple initially planned to produce 110 million units of the AirPods for this year, but has since lowered the target by 25% to 30%. One source added that inventory levels in warehouses and in-store stocks are currently high.

Apple is expected to unveil two new AirPods models this year. Bloomberg claimed that there would be an entry-level AirPods model similar in design to the current AirPods Pro, and a second-generation AirPods Pro with a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips.
