Apple has poached a longtime Ford engineer to join its smart car project.

Bloomberg reports that former Ford engineer Desi Ujkashevic has left the company to join Apple on its smart car project. Ujkashevic worked at Ford for over 30 years and held different positions over the years including the Global Director of Ford's Automotive Safety Engineering Office, Engineering Director for North American Vehicle Programs, Global Director of Interiors Engineering, and Director of Engineering for Body Systems and Design Operations.

Apple's smart car project is believed to be led by Kevin Lynch, VP of Technology after Doug Field left the company to join Ford. Apple has been hiring veterans from the industry such as two former Mercedes engineers, Porsche's former VP of chassis development, former Tesla Autopilot Software director Christopher Moore, and former Tesla VP and Aston Martin Chief Engineer. Apple's smart car is slated for launch in 2025.
