Apple Music is being rebuilt as a full native app in macOS Monterey 12.2 beta

Apple is making improvements to the Apple Music in macOS.

Though the Music app was spun off from iTunes back in 2019 with macOS Catalina, the fact is that while it looked like a new app, the backend wasn't really all that different.

Despite being a standalone app, it always felt a tad slower than other native Mac apps, and even sluggish at times.

It turns out that one of the reasons why is because pages are loaded like web pages within the app. The best way to think of it is to imagine browsing the Internet within another app like Facebook or Instagram. That's what's happening with Apple Music when you are browsing through albums and playlists.

Fortunately, that's all going to change as the Music app will start using AppKit, macOS' native interface framework.

According to reports, this should make searching for music faster. Scrolling and animations will also generally be more responsive.

The updated Apple Music app is now available in the public beta of macOS Monterey 12.2.
