Apple might use new LCD panels with minimal bezels for the iPhone next year

Despite reports that Apple would switch to OLED panels for the new iPhone lineup next year, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) learnt that the iPhone maker might continue to use LCD panels for some of the iPhones.

Sources told the WSJ that Apple is interested in purchasing advanced LCD panels from Japan Display for some iPhone models next year. These new LCD panels are called Full Active LCD and come with minimal bezels. While current LCD panels require a border area of several millimeters, the Full Active LCD panels require only 0.5 millimeters of border space.

While the iPhone X is the only model in the lineup to have an edge-to-edge OLED display, Apple might provide consumers with more options next year with the iPhones using Full Active LCD.
