Apple might create more differentiation between iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

Future generations of iPhone Pro Max models could have better specs than the Pro models.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared in a series of tweets that the popularity of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max might encourage Apple to create more differentiation between the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.

Kuo says the iPhone 14 Pro Max currently accounts for about 60% of the sales, which will boost the iPhone ASP and product mix for Q4 2022. It makes sense for Apple to push more sales of the Pro Max model by giving it exclusive features.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg hints that this is possible as Apple could replace the Pro Max branding with Ultra. Similar to the specs difference between the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, a shift to the Ultra moniker for the top-tier iPhone model suggests there is a likelihood that it has better specs than the Pro model.

Pre-orders of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are said to be worse than the iPhone 13 mini and iPhone SE (2022), which reportedly prompted Foxconn to cease at least 5 production lines.

Overall, demand for the iPhone 14 lineup is believed to on-par with the iPhone 13. The anticipated surge in demand did not materalise according to Bloomberg's sources, and Apple is expected to cut production of the iPhone 14 models.
