Apple may release a GaN USB-C charger with 65W fast charge this year

The Aukey's 100W Omnia charge is 66% smaller than a 13-inch MacBook Pro's 61W charger.

Apple may be releasing a GaN USB-C charger with fast charging technology later this year.

Accoring to a Chinese report, several tech companies such as Apple, Huawei and Samsung have plans to release GaN-based chargers with fast charging up to 65W later this year. While the report did not specify any details about Apple's GaN charger, it mentioned how Xiaomi's recently announced GaN charger supports intelligent adjustment of output current in multiple gears.

This could mean that Apple may be working on its own GaN charger that can charge multiple devices such as the iPhone, iPad and MacBooks simultaneously. The past year has seen multiple companies launching GaN chargers which are smaller than those offered by Apple.

The RavPower's 61W PD wall charger is almost 50% smaller than Apple's 61W charger thanks to GaN technology which uses fewer components than standard silicon chargers. Belkin recently announced the 68W Boost Charge USB-C Charger which has two ports with Intelligent Power Sharing to direct the most efficient charge to the devices plugged in. Aukey also unveiled a 100W GaN USB-C charger that is 66% smaller than the 13-inch MacBook Pro's 61W charger.
