Apple may include ambient light sensors in future AirPods

The AirPods Pro.

The AirPods could join the Apple Watch as a health monitoring wearable in the future.

According to DigiTimes, Apple is said to be including ambient light sensors (ALS) in the new generation of AirPods in the coming one to two years. While no information is provided on the function of the ALS, the publication believes they could be able to do biometric measurements such as heart rate and blood oxygen saturation monitoring.

DigiTimes claimed in January 2019 that the AirPods 2 would have discrete designs to support health monitoring features. However, the AirPods 2 launched without any of these said features. Nonetheless, with health being a huge focus for Apple, it is likely to see more Apple products such as the AirPods with health monitoring features.
