Apple may generate US$3 billion in revenue thanks to Pokémon GO

Besides doing wonders for its company, Pokémon GO is expected to help Apple generate a significant amount of revenue overtime.

According to Needham & Company analyst Laura Martin, Apple is estimated to generate US$3 billion in revenue over the next one to two years. The analyst calculated the figure based on a wide range of data points and Apple's 30% revenue share with app developers. Assuming that Pokémon GO reaches a 20% penetration rate in every country, Apple can get five cents per user from in-app purchases on a daily basis.

“According to [analytics firm] Sensor Tower, on July 11 (6 days after its July 6 US launch), Pokémon Go was generating US revenue of $1.6 million per day on iOS, from the 10 million downloads on iOS devices, implying spending of $0.16 per person per day, of which Apple keeps 30% (five cents),” Martin adds in her note. “Media reports estimate conversion rates of 20%, so in reality, 20% of US users pay an average of $0.80/day and the other 80% pay nothing.”

Within the U.S alone, Pokémon GO has surpassed WhatsApp, Snapchat and Facebook Messenger in active usage time. Android app installs also exceeded that of Tinder and there are more daily active users of Pokémon GO than Twitter! With the app launching in Asia soon, the Pokémon GO craze is not going to fade anytime soon.
