Apple may allow you to delete some stock apps on iPhones in future
The issue of bloatware and non-removable apps is not limited to Oppo and Samsung; Apple is coming under increasing pressure to give iPhone users some flexibility in deciding which stock apps to uninstall.
In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that some consumers want to uninstall some stock apps on their iPhones to free up storage space and the company is looking into the matter. Cook went on to explain why stock apps currently cannot be removed on the iPhones:
BuzzFeed News - “This is a more complex issue than it first appears,” he says. “There are some apps that are linked to something else on the iPhone. If they were to be removed they might cause issues elsewhere on the phone. There are other apps that aren’t like that. So over time, I think with the ones that aren’t like that, we’ll figure out a way [for you to remove them]. … It’s not that we want to suck up your real estate; we’re not motivated to do that. We want you to be happy. So I recognize that some people want to do this, and it’s something we’re looking at.”
This issue is made worse considering the fact that Apple still offers 16GB as the base storage option. With 4K video recording support and photo file sizes getting bigger on the new iPhones, we feel that 16GB is barely sufficient for the mainstream consumers.
