Apple's M4 MacBook Pro might not launch this year

The Apple 14-inch MacBook Pro (M3) was announced in October 2023. It might take a while before you see the M4-powered models.

Apple might not launch the M4-powered MacBook Pro this year.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg revealed during an online Q&A session that Apple just started "formal development" of the M4 MacBook Pro. This suggests that it could take a while before the M4 MacBook Pro arrives.

Judging from Apple's record of updating its M-series chipsets (M1 in November 2020, M2 in June 2022, M3 in October 2023), it is likely to be a year and a half before we see the debut of the M4 chip and devices powered by it.

By this measure, it means the earliest we could see the M4 chip debut would likely be spring of 2025 or during WWDC 2025.

The M3 family of MacBook Pros was announced on 31 October 2023, and we tested both the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max and found them to be highly capable machines.

More recently, Apple updated the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air with the M3 chip, which we found to be the best MacBook for most people.
