Are you waiting for Apple to release Macs with the rumoured new M3 chip? Well, don't hold your breath.
According to noted Apple analysy Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple's next-generation M3 chip will only enter mass production in the later half of this year.
Kuo also said that M3 chip production will start first, followed shortly by the M3 Pro and M3 Max.
This news has a number of implications. It means the eagerly anticipated 15-inch MacBook Air will be powered by the M2 chip.
Also, Kuo initially said that this notebook could come with an M2 Pro option, but now thinks that will not be the case and that it'll only be offered with M2 chips.
Crucially, it also means that we are a long way from seeing the first Macs with the M3 chip. Looking at the way things are now, it looks like the first Macs to be powered by M3 will only be announced much later this year just in time for Christmas.
The M3 chip is significant because it's expected to be manufactured using the newest 3nm process. This should offer tangible improvements in both performance and efficiency.
