Apple likely to use TSMC's 5nm+ and 4nm technologies for future chipsets

The Apple A14 Bionic is the first chipset in the phone industry to be manufactured on a 5nm process.

Research firm TrendForce expects Apple to continue using TSMC to manufacture its future chipsets.

TrendForce claims that Apple remains the only client using TSMC's 5nm process after U.S trade sanctions banned overseas chip manufacturers from supplying chips to Huawei. For 2021, TrendForce says Apple will use TSMC's 5nm+ process for the A15 chipsets while trial production will commence for a small batch of AMD 5nm Zen 4 CPUs.

Its data indicate that Apple will continue to manufacture its A16 chipsets with TSMC's 4nm process. This suggests that TSMC is likely to also help manufacture Apple Silicon chips for the Mac.
