Apple iPhone SE (2022).

Apple iPhone SE fans – your wait is over.

Apple announced the iPhone SE (2022). As with previous models, Apple didn’t hold back in making its ‘entry-level’ handset offer all the core features that give iPhones its popularity.

For starters, iPhone SE (2022) uses the A15 Bionic chipset. That’s Apple’s latest mobile processor, which first debuted on the iPhone 13 series. Users who get the iPhone SE (2022) would see performance and processing on par with Apple’s pricier, mainline current-gen mobiles. SE fans would know Apple had the same practice for its previous SE models as well. Also, using A15 Bionic means that the iPhone SE (2022) is a 5G compatible handset, although Apple didn’t specify which bands or types of 5G the SE works with during its keynote.

iPhone SE models are also known for their compact form factor, and the 2022 variant holds up the tradition. It has a 4.7-inch display with a physical Home Button and Touch ID (fingerprint sensor) built-in. The front and back glass are the same types used in iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. Finally, iPhone SE (2022) is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance (maximum 1m depth for 30 minutes). None of these traits is any different from the 2020 iPhone SE if you're looking for differentiation.

While the iPhone SE’s photography configuration takes a backseat in favour of better pricing (compared to the flagship models), the phone still offers plenty of iPhone 13 series imaging features. It offers a single 12MP, f/1.8 aperture rear camera (identical to the 2020 iPhone SE) replete with Smart HDR 4 (for wider dynamic range), Photographic Styles (for natural skin tone in selfies), Deep Fusion (for neural processing) and Portrait Mode. All of these photography features and abilities are now enabled on the iPhone SE thanks to the new A15 Bionic processor.

Naturally, the 2022 iPhone SE also comes with Apple iOS 15, including relatively new features like Focus, SharePlay, a more detailed Apple Maps, and Live Text

Interestingly, Apple didn’t specify the battery life of the new iPhone SE, but it did mention that the combination of A15 Bionic, better “battery chemistry”, and Smart Data mode (that switches between LTE and 5G networks) gives the 2022 version “longer battery life than the previous generation, and older 4.7-inch iPhone models”.

In a nutshell, the new iPhone SE (2022) has a phenomenal processor boost and now has 5G support. That's pretty much all you get. However, it seems to have come at a higher price point than its predecessor.

The iPhone SE (2022) is available in the following capacities and price points:-

  • 64GB   - S$699
  • 128GB - S$769
  • 256GB - S$939

Compared to the 2020 edition, the new iPhone SE (2022) is about S$50 more expensive, but with the global parts shortage and difficult times, along with the notable processor upgrade, the new iPhone SE (2022) is still an expensive ask when compared to Android phones of similar standing. However, if you need the most inexpensive iPhone, this is still your best bet.

Colourways available are Midnight, Starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED. You can click here to preview each model and your choices before making a purchase.

Alternatively, you can also consider getting it via Amazon. If you're using a HSBC card on Amazon where a minimum purchase of S$650 or S$1,000 is made, you're also eligible to receive a S$50 or S$75 gift card respectively. This offer is applicable until 25th March 2022 (or when fully redeemed, whichever is earlier).

Pre-orders begin on 11 March 2022, at 9 AM. (SGT) and availability starts on 18 March 2022.
