Apple iPhone 7 to use wireless and Lightning earphones instead of 3.5mm port?

More rumors have surfaced in support of the report by Japanese blog Macotakara two months ago on the possibility of Apple removing the 3.5mm audio jack on the iPhone 7.

According to Chinese media, supply chain sources have confirmed that the iPhone 7 will not have a 3.5mm audio jack. Apple will instead equip the iPhone 7 with wireless "EarPod" headphones. In addition, Apple could also bundle Lightning earphones.

Could the move to wireless headphones be the reason for Apple increasing the battery capacity of the iPhone 7 Plus? If so, Apple risks alienating its customer base as the 3.5mm audio port is an industry open standard and many consumers might have invested in an expensive pair of wired headphones.
