Apple to invest over one billion euros in new Munich chip design plant
Apple just announced a huge investment project to research and develop mobile and wireless technologies.
The iPhone maker will commit more than one billion euros over three years to build a Center for Chip Design in Munich, Germany. The Center for Chip Design, which spans about 30 square kilometers, will house hundreds of employees when it is ready by the end of 2022.
While Apple currently uses radio modem chips from Qualcomm, the new facility is likely to help minimise its reliance and save costs. In addition, Apple will be able to integrate its own radio modem chips into the mobile chipset which will offer huge boosts in power efficiency.
