Apple to Increase Production of iPads and iPhones with New Manufacturing Partners
In view of the overwhelming demand for its iPads and iPhones, Apple has engaged the help of two Taiwan-based manufacturing firms to increase production of the devices.
According to AllThingsD, sources in position to know claim that Apple signed a deal with Wistron to ramp up the iPhone production capacity for the holiday season and the new year beyond. Wistron is said to begin production sometime this month or next alongside existing manufacturing partners Foxconn and Pegatron.
Wistron is a contract manufacturer based in Taiwan that has built smartphones for a number of companies such as BlackBerry, ZTE and Nokia. It is unclear at this moment whether Wistron is engaged to manufacture the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 5C, or both. In addition, Apple has enlisted the help of Compal Communications to manufacture more iPad Minis in 2014.
Apple has seen record demand for its new iPhones with over 9 million units sold in just three days after its launch on 20 September. In addition, Apple is seeking to grow its presence in the second most populous country, India and demand for its devices is expected to outstrip supply if production capacity is not increased.
Mobile app analytics company Fiksu rcently reported that the iPad Air is selling at a much faster rate compared to the iPad 4 and iPad Mini. With the second generation iPad Mini slated for a launch later this month, it is likely to add pressure on Apple to maintain a consistent supply of new stocks for customers.
