Apple reportedly in price negotiations with OLED suppliers for iPhone SE 4

Apple is expected to switch to an OLED panel for the next-generation iPhone SE.

Apple is currently engaged in price negotiations with several OLED suppliers for the next-generation iPhone SE according to TheElec.

The news site claims that Samsung Display, BOE and, Tianma have submitted their price proposals to Apple. Sources say Samsung has the best proposal at US$30 per panel while BOE and Tianma were slightly higher at US$35 and US$40 per panel respectively.

However, the iPhone SE maker is looking at a lower price of US$20 per panel and price negotiations are underway.

The OLED panel price for the next-generation iPhone SE is significantly lower than that of the iPhone 15 as Apple is seeking to use the same OLED panel as the iPhone 14 and iPhone 13.

While Samsung enjoys a strategic advantage over the Chinese display makers due to its existing iPhone 14 OLED supply, Apple is said to be considering the latter to reduce its reliance on the South Korean company.

ITHome reported in August 2023 that Apple employees visited several OLED plants in China and Chinese display makers were vying for the iPhone SE 4 OLED panel orders.

The next-generation iPhone SE is rumoured to adopt the Dynamic Island and similar design traits as the iPhone 16 with a vertical rear camera layout. It is likely to launch next year.
