Apple has hired Jason Oberfest, the former CEO of Mango Health to join its Health team.

CNBC reports that Oberfest will help Apple explore opportunities to help people take their medication on time. It is said to cost the U.S healthcare system between US$100 to US$289 billion every year when people do not take their medications.

Mango Health is a startup that has an app for people to manage their medicine and create healthy habits through gamification. Prior to starting Mango Health, Oberfest worked in the gaming and social media space. He was a senior vice president at MySpace before joining mobile gaming company ngmoco.

Oberfest's experience in social media, gaming and health care could boost Apple's health initiatives such as the HealthKit, ResearchKit and the Apple Watch.
