The Apple headset said to have an external battery pack and USB-C port
A new report by Bloomberg reveals two design elements for the upcoming Apple mixed reality headset.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman claims the headset will come with two ports: USB-C for data transfer and a new proprietary charging port. The charging port will be used to connect to an external battery, which rests in the pocket of the user.
The external battery pack is also connected to a charging cable. The charging cable is said to have a round tip that inserts magnetically and have to be rotated clockwise to lock it in to prevent it from falling out during use.
The external battery pack can power the headset for about two hours. You can charge it via USB-C and use the same adapter bundled with the MacBook Pro.
On the size and look of the external battery pack, Gurman describes it an iPhone's MagSafe battery pack lookalike. The external battery pack is about the size of the iPhone, but thicker.
The Information reported earlier this year about the waist-mounted battery pack. The report also suggests a Digital Crown feature on the right side of the headset that allows the user to toggle between the virtual and physical world
Apple is expected to announce the headset at WWDC 2023 in June, but retail availability could be towards the end of the year.
