Apple to extend early Apple TV+ subscriptions, says report

Last year, Apple announced that anyone who has purchased an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, or iPod Touch) after Sep 10 will get a year of Apple TV+ for free.

Those keeping track will remember that the streaming service launched in Nov (including in Singapore) — so if you’re one of the earliest adopters, going by the original terms, your free trial should be coming to an end soon.

According to TechCrunch’s Matthew Panzarino, this is now no longer the case as Apple has told him that it will be extending some Apple TV+ trials through February 2021.

To be clear, not all would see their subscriptions extended. If you’ve redeemed the offer between Nov 1, 2019 and Jan 31, 2020, you’ll get the extension with a new Feb 2021 end date.

If you didn’t buy a new device but paid for a yearly plan instead during this same period, you’ll also get the service for free through Feb 2021.

And lastly, those who’ve signed up for a monthly subscription before Nov 1, 2020 will receive credit for those three extra months in their Apple accounts.

According to Panzarino, there’s nothing you need to do to receive the extension or credit; Apple will be sending emails to eligible subscribers to inform them the details.

In Singapore, Apple TV+ is priced at S$6.98 per month after a free seven-day trial. Apple is still giving a one-year sub for free when you buy an Apple device.
