Apple may be exploring self-driving taxi service or car platform

Apple is said to be very active in the vehicle supply chain, but there is no concrete evidence that it is building an actual vehicle. The Wall Street Journal believes Apple could be exploring to build a self-driving taxi service.

Citing information from an expert in the software and electronics of automobiles, the publication speculates that Apple may design and commission vehicles that have its branding, and operate as part of a service. This will help Apple establish itself in the robot-taxi service industry which is still in its infancy.

The Wall Street Journal also does not think that Apple will develop a vehicle platform for other automakers to use as the company would want to "control every aspect of the user experience". Unlike recent rumours which suggest that an Apple Car is in the works, the publication says it is possible that Apple spends billions in its attempt to develop one without ever releasing it.
