Apple expected to unveil new MacBook Air models by WWDC 2023

The Apple MacBook Air (2022).

Apple is expected to unveil three new Mac models in the next few months.

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg revealed in his Power On newsletter that Apple is planning to launch an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, a bigger 15-inch MacBook Air, and its first Mac Pro with a M series chipset.

The Mac Pro is likely to be powered by the M2 Ultra chip, which will offer up to 24 cores, 76 graphics cores and an option to boost up to at least 192GB of memory.

As for the new MacBook Air models, Gurman says it is unclear at the moment which chipset will be used. The current 13-inch MacBook Air is running on the M2 chip and it doesn't make sense for an updated model to run on the same processor. Moreover, new M2-powered MacBook Air models would be outdated in a few months when the M3 chip launches.

Rumours of a larger-sized MacBook Air surfaced last March when Display Supply Chain Consultants claimed Apple was sourcing for suitable display panels for a 15-inch model. Bloomberg reported in June 2022 that the 15-inch MacBook Air would adopt the same design language as the current MacBook Air. Display analyst Ross Young shared in a tweet that display panel production for the 15-inch MacBook Air would start in this quarter.
