Apple expands its fleet of autonomous cars in California
Apple is boosting its efforts in autonomous driving technology with an expanded fleet of cars.
According to MacReports, the California Department of Motor Vehicles confirmed that Apple currently has 55 vehicles and 83 drivers permitted to test autonomous vehicles. The fleet started with three cars in April 2017 and grew to 45 by March 2018.
Despite having the second highest number of self-driving cars in California, Apple has not applied for a driverless testing permit.
In June 2017, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed for the first time that the company is "focusing on autonomous systems" and calls self-driving technology "as the mother of all AI projects".
