Apple is aiming to ship less than two million units of its first-generation mixed reality headset according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In his latest research note, Kuo reiterates Apple's first generation mixed reality headset will launch in January 2023 and claims it will cost at least US$2,000. Due to its premium price tag, Kuo estimates shipments of the headset to not exceed 1.5 million units by the end of 2023.

The Information reported in February 2021 that the mixed reality headset is priced above US$3,000 due to use of ultra-high resolution 8K displays and advanced eye-tracking technology.

Apple reportedly presented the device to its board members earlier this year, which suggests that the device is nearing completion. The mixed reality headset is rumoured to focus on gaming, media and communication. The New York Times revealed in a June report that Apple has been working with Hollywood directors to create video content for the headset.
