Apple estimated to have sold over 100 million units of iPhone 12 within 7 months

Earlier this year, Apple confirmed that the iPhone 12 delivered a volume super-cycle as it saw "the largest number of upgraders" ever in a quarter. Counterpoint Research attempts to put a figure to this claim.

According to data from its Market Pulse Service, sales of the iPhone 12 models crossed 100 million units in April 2021. Compared to the iPhone 11, Apple managed to achieve this milestone two months earlier. Considering that the retail availability of the iPhone 12 was delayed by a few weeks, this is an impressive achievement! In addition, the sales volume is almost on par with the iPhone 6 which sparked off the first volume super-cycle in 2014.

Counterpoint Research believes 5G connectivity and OLED display are the key factors for the success of the iPhone 12 lineup. The market search firm also observed a shift in model preferences between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 lineup; the iPhone 12 Pro Max constituted 29% of the total sales while the iPhone 11 Pro Max garnered only 25%.
