Apple estimated to have paid up to $6 billion to settle with Qualcomm

Apple estimated to have paid up to $6 billion to settle with Qualcomm

Apple probably paid a high price for settling the legal battle with Qualcomm.

UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri estimated that Apple likely paid between $5 billion and $6 billion to seal a deal with Qualcomm. This is based on Qualcomm's guidance that it expects earnings per share to grow by $2. The one-time payment is likely for the royalty payments that Apple had stopped paying at the start of the legal battle.

Both companies announced an end to the legal battle earlier this week and signed a multi-year chipset supply deal. Shortly after their announcement, Intel revealed it will exit the 5G smartphone modem business.
