Apple embraces inclusivity, alongside fun with upcoming emojis in celebration of World Emoji Day
Apple is offering a sneak peek at its latest emojis in celebration of World Emoji Day. A total of 59 new emoji designs will be made available via a free software update for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch this fall.
A major update to the Holding Hands emoji will allow users to select any combination of skin tone and gender to “personalize the people holding hands, opening up more than 75 possible combinations.”
To celebrate diversity, Apple will also introduce “more disability-themed emoji, a new guide dog, an ear with a hearing aid, wheelchairs, a prosthetic arm and a prosthetic leg will be available in the emoji keyboard.”
There are also updates to lighthearted emoji categories with a new yawning, smiley face, a unitard swimsuit, new food items, and new animals that include “the sloth, flamingo, orangutan and skunk.”
