The Touch Bar is gone as Apple discontinues the 13-inch MacBook Pro

Goodbye, Touch Bar.

With the launch of the M3 family of chips and MacBook Pro models, Apple has discontinued the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro. This marks the end for the controversial Touch Bar.

Quick recap, the Touch Bar was introduced on the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models in 2016. It was a customisable and adaptive OLED strip that replaced the row of media/function keys.

The idea was that it would change to suit whatever app was running. So if you were in Photoshop, it could show you brush tools or colour palettes; and if you were in Pages, it could show you document formatting options.

And while early impressions of the Touch Bar were positive, the lack of support from third-party developers and consistency of its implementation led to many users finding it irksome. In addition, some users just straight out preferred the tactile feedback of the physical keys.

Given the Touch Bar's colourful and controversial past, we doubt any long-time MacBook Pro user is sad to see it go.
