Apple seems to be going all out to demonstrate the capabilities of its mixed reality headset at WWDC 2023.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg shared in a series of tweets that a large structure has been built on the Apple Park campus near its fitness center to offer controlled hands-on demos of the headset for some attendees and media at WWDC 2023.
Gurman says the demos will focus on immersive FaceTime in VR, Apple TV+ content and gaming. Future demos of the headset will also be held at this area throughout summer. Gurman wrote in December 2021 that the headset is likely to focus on gaming, media and communication.
In addition, Apple is reportedly considering to inform potential customers with certain conditions to avoid purchasing or using the device. These conditions include people with Meniere's Disease, past traumatic brain injuries, post-concussion syndrome, migraines and vertigo.
Based on information from some testers, Gurman claims the mixed reality headset, which is currently nearing the Design Validation Testing (DVT), tends to overheat. Bloomberg reported about Apple facing development challenges with the headset in January 2022, which include overheating caused by the use of high-end chipsets, cameras and software-related issues.
While Apple is gearing up to enter a new product category, not everyone in the company is optimistic about its prospects and future. According to a report by The New York Times, some employees do not think the device is ready yet and question "if the new device is a solution in search of a problem."
