Apple cuts prices for its products in China due to tax change

Apple has implemented price cuts for several products in China.

CNBC reports that the price cuts for Apple products are in response to a tax change in China which lowered the value-added tax for manufacturers. Prices for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and AirPods are slashed by up to 6%.

The iPhone XR saw a price reduction of 4.6% while the iPhone XS and XS Max have their retail prices cut by 500 yuan (~S$100). Consumers in China who bought an affected product from Apple in the past 14 days are entitled to receive a refund for the difference in price.

Apple reportedly lowered the purchase prices of the iPhones for channel partners in China earlier this year. This led to higher sales numbers for some online retailers. A second price cut was implemented last month with major Apple resellers in China pushing sales of the iPhones via price promotions.
