The Apple Watch could be using microLED as early as next year.
According to Economic Daily News, Apple is reportedly in advanced talks with Taiwanese display makers to bring microLED to its product lineup as early as next year. The Apple Watch Series 6 could be the first product from Apple to feature a microLED display with plans for the iPhone lineup in the pipeline.
The iPhone maker has been rumored to working on microLED for many years. It acquired LuxVue, a company specialising in next generation microLED technology in 2014. Bloomberg reported in March 2018 that Apple was developing its own microLED displays at a secret facility.
Apple is also said to be working with PlayNitride to enter the microLED market. Apple’s interest in microLED led the Foxconn Group to invest in the upcoming display technology so that it would be in a good position to secure future orders.
