Apple could unveil native sleep tracking feature for the Apple Watch next week

The Apple Watch Series 4.

More details have surfaced about Apple's upcoming native sleep tracking feature for the Apple Watch.

Sources told 9to5Mac that the native sleep tracking feature is codenamed “Burrito” and could be called "Time in Bed" tracking. Apparently, it does not require any special hardware to work.

"Time in Bed" will track the user's sleep quality with the multiple sensors and inputs (e.g. movements, heart rate and noises). The data collected will be made available in the Health app and a new Sleep app for the Apple Watch.

Other new features include a reminder to charge their smartwatches before bedtime so that there is enough power to track through the night, a new sleep tracking complication, automatic enabling of Do Not Disturb mode when the user goes to bed, and an option to use a silent alarm that only vibrates the Apple Watch.

Since the next generation Apple Watches are unlikely to have a major hardware refresh, "Time in Bed" could be a key highlight of the upcoming watchOS 6.
