Apple could be a potential buyer of Broadcom's RF business

Apple could be a potential buyer of its supplier Broadcom's RF wireless chip business.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Broadcom is working with Credit Suisse to find a buyer for its RF wireless chip business. The RF business unit reportedly brought in revenue of $2.2 billion in fiscal 2019, which means it "could be worth $10 billion."

The RF business unit is a market leader in manufacturing film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARs), which are used in smartphones and base stations to filter out unwanted radio transmissions. Since Apple is a major Broadcom customer and it is already in the process of building its own radio modems, an acquisition of the RF business unit will fit nicely with the company's networking projects.
