Apple's base-level M3 Pro chip will allegedly have 12 CPU cores and 18 GPU cores
As we approach WWDC 2023, Apple is said to be ramping up tests of its M3 series of chips.
And according to a developer log obtained by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, at least one version of the chip would have 12 CPU cores, 18 GPU cores, and 32GB of memory.
It's hard to say what chip this would be, but a good guess would be that it's the base-level M3 Pro chip. That's because the current base-level M2 Pro chip has 10 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores.
This means the M3 Pro chip will get a nice bump in both CPU and GPU cores. Furthermore, the M3 series is expected to be manufactured on a new 3nm process, which should also bring about noticeable performance and efficiency gains.
However, don't expect to see this chip in a MacBook anytime soon. The current-generation MacBook Pro was only released earlier this year, so a replacement would likely only arrive early next year.
That said, the M3 chip is still expected to make its debut later this year beginning with the MacBook Air and perhaps a low-end MacBook Pro and iMac.
