Apple has announced a multi-year content partnership with Oprah Winfrey.

The well-known producer, actress and talk show host will work with Apple to create original programs. Winfrey's projects will also be released as part of a lineup of original content from Apple.

It is likely that content from this partnership will appear next year alongside the rumored direct video subscription feature which Apple is working on. Apple's original video content strategy is taking shape after an aggressive hiring spree and a massive US$1 billion budget

The Wall Street Journal reported in January 2017 that Apple was in talks with veteran producers in Hollywood for some months about buying rights to scripted TV shows. The iPhone maker also hired several industry veterans such as former Amazon Fire TV chief Timonthy D. Twerdahl, ex-YouTube and Spotify executive Shiva Rajaraman, two former presidents (Jamie Ehrlicht and Zack Van Amburg) from Sony Pictures Television, three Sony senior executives (Kim Rozenfeld, Max Aronson and Ali Woodruff) and former WGN America head of publicity Rita Cooper Lee.
