The Apple AirPods lineup could become the next health tool.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims Apple willl "upgrade the AirPods to become a health tool in the next year or two" with "the ability to get hearing data of some sort".
The AirPods Pro currently support Conversation Boost, a feature which is designed to help people with mild hearing challenges to hear conversations better. However, the feature is not designed to function as a hearing aid replacement. Gurman expects the AirPods to support hearing health features "more officially" in the near future.
Apple has been rumoured for several years to be working on health features for the AirPods. DigiTimes reported in 2019 that the AirPods would have discrete designs to support health monitoring features. The publication updated in 2020 that Apple plans to add ambient light sensors in future AirPods to do biometric readings such as heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The Wall Street Journal wrote in October 2021 that future AirPods could have temperatue sensors to measure the user's core body temperature.
