Apple adds second iPhone 14 supplier in India
Another Apple supplier is assemblying the iPhone 14 in India.
Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg Pegatron is the second Apple supplier after Foxconn to be assemblying the iPhone 14 in India.
The shift of iPhone 14 production away from China came after more than two years of strict zero-Covid policy imposed by the Chinese government, which resulted in numerous disruptions in Apple's supply chain.
J.P. Morgan analysts estimate 25% of all Apple products will be built outside of China by 2025. The latest news is in line with their forecast that 5% of iPhone 14 production capacity will be shifted to India from late 2022.
Bloomberg reported last month that iPhone exports from India is expected to reach $2.5 billion by March 2023, which is almost double the $1.3 billion worth of iPhones that India exported in the year through March 2022. Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal claimed Apple informed contract manufacturers to expand production outside of China, especially to India and Southeast Asia.
