The first purported benchmark results of Apple's newest A14 processor has just surfaced online. These come from the recently announced fourth-generation iPad Air.
The new A14 chip is built on a 5nm process – an industry first – and has a 6-core CPU and a 4-core GPU.
The results are from Geekbench and it shows the A14 managing a single-core score of 1,583 and a multi-core score of 4,198.
Here's how it stacks up against other comparable processors:
Model | Single-core | Multi-core |
---|---|---|
A14 | 1,583 | 4,198 |
A13 | 1,336 | 3,569 |
A12Z | 1,118 | 4,564 |
Exynos 990 | 925 | 2,681 |
Kirin 990 | 757 | 2,992 |
Snapdragon 865 | 901 | 3,337 |
Looking at the results, it's clear that the A14 has the fastest single-core performance of any contemporary processor used in a phone. Perhaps more impressively, its multi-core performance was just a tad behind that of the A12Z.
These numbers also offer a glimpse of how the upcoming iPhone 12 will perform.
The fourth-generation iPad Air will go sale sometime this month. Apple is expected to unveil the upcoming iPhone 12 soon as well.
