Apple's own 5G modem for the iPhone might arrive in 2025 according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In his latest Medium post, Kuo briefly mentioned how the expected introduction of Apple's own 5G modem in 2025 could add to the growing list of issues for Qualcomm.
That said, there have been conflicting reports on the debut of Apple's own 5G modem. Kuo posted in February that the iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch in 2024, would be the first Apple device to use the in-house 5G modem.
However, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon revealed at MWC 2023 that he expects Apple to roll out its own 5G modem in 2024.
Kuo then claimed the mass production of the 5G modem is delayed as Apple shifted its focus on the development of the next-generation 3nm chips.
This view is shared by Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, who believes Apple's 5G modem will only arrive in 2025 as the 2024 iPhone will continue to use Qualcomm's chips.
It is also uncertain at the moment whether Apple had resolved the purported development and legal issues with its 5G modem. The iPhone maker reportedly encountered legal issues with Qualcomm over patents and the licensing agreement. If Apple is unable to overcome the issues, the roll-out of its 5G modem could be delayed further.
