The latest rumours surrounding a new MacBook Air say Apple could release a larger 15.5-inch version as soon as "early April."

This is according to DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) analyst Ross Young who said that production has started for this new 15.5-inch panel.

Young told his Super Followers:

15.5-inch MacBook Air started panel production this month. We would expect an early April launch.

That said, little else is known about this new larger MacBook Air. The general consensus now is that it would be identical to the existing model but with a larger screen.

Famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said that he believes Apple would call this new notebook simply "MacBook" rather than "MacBook Air." He also said that the 15-inch MacBook would be available with M2 or M2 Pro chips.

What I'm interested to know is how much this new MacBook would weigh. At 1.24kg, the current MacBook Air is light but it's by no means a true featherweight in the same way some Windows ultraportables are. And if Apple insists on sticking with an all-aluminium chassis, we can expect this new 15-inch model to perhaps come in at around 1.7-1.8kg. That would be light for a 15-inch notebook but then LG makes a 16-inch notebook that weighs just 1.48kg.

That said, many Mac users have been clamouring for a larger MacBook Air for years and given the trend of notebooks with larger displays, we can totally see this new 15-inch MacBook Air being a tremendous hit.
