An angry fan smashed his PS4 to protest Breath of the Wild-imitated game

Genshin Impact is an open-world game made by chinese developer Mihoyo. It is also, according to many angry fans, a complete and utter rip-off of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Genshin Impact showed off new gameplay footage recently at the China Joy Gaming Expo. Zelda fans didn’t take it too well though, taking photos of themselves flipping off the game’s booth while holding up a Switch.

They seem to be blaming Sony for it all for some reason, even though it’s not a PS4 exclusive whatsoever. Nevertheless, one PS4-owner got mad enough to take out his console and start smashing it on the spot.

This man smashed his PS4 at ChinaJoy in protest.

No one seemed particularly impressed with his little stunt though, and now our PS4 smasher is going to have to fork out for another console if he wants to play Death Stranding with the rest of us. Smart man.

Okay, but is Genshin Impact a Breath of the Wild rip-off?

Yes. 100 percent, yes. I mean, just look at the announcement trailer! If you’re still not convinced, Twitter user Vivian.Ysy has made side-by-side comparisons, which you can see below.

Come on now, they even copied the little piano flourishes when exploring the open world!

So we’re all agreed, Genshin Impact is, at best, inspired by Breath of the Wild. Still, there’s a lot in this game that sets it apart. It’s not a Switch exclusive, for one. You can play it on iOS, Android, PC and PlayStation 4. You also have the ability to play as multiple characters. There’s also a bigger, more present story element.

Maybe Genshin Impact is a shameless copy of Breath of the Wild, maybe it isn’t. But it sure as hell got gamers' attention now.
