After thoroughly dominating both the iOS and the Android platforms, Rovio is spreading their wings and planning to introduce a new version of the game on Facebook. The release for the game is slated as 14th February 2012 according to Rovio's founder, Peter Vesterbacka.

Seeing that other companies, such as Zynga, have made a killing with their social games, Rovio also wants to capitalize and monetize the 800 million or so Facebook users. They plan to do so with the introduction of special birds and features which can be purchased in-game with real cash.

Although the game itself will be free, Angry Birds on Facebook will feature a leaderboard system where players will be able to see their rank and compare their performance with others. This is also intended to provide incentive to users to purchase better power ups in the race to get ahead.

It can be argued that Facebook and Angry Birds are two of the most addictive substances known to man at present. We shudder to think how potent they will be once they have joined forces. Those who want a preview of the game can check out the Youtube gameplay trailer.
