Android Q takes care of your kids digital wellbeing

Control and monitor your children’s mobile phone usage in Android Q

Phone addiction is a real concern. In 2018, Google implemented a Digital Wellbeing dashboard, App Timers, and Wind Down in the Settings section of Android Pie.

This year, Google added two new tools: Focus mode and Family Link. For Focus mode, users can select apps that are distracting, and all notifications will be silenced during Focus mode. This is different from Do Not Disturb mode, which silences everything - including phone calls. So there's more control on how you get 'disturbed' now.

Family Link allows parental control over their children’s devices, in which they can set time limits on individual apps, for example, a few minutes for games and longer for productivity or educational apps. They can also give bonus time for their children to finish their games or apps. Parents can monitor and restrict these apps even remotely. Family Link will be baked into system Settings in all Android Q devices.

Meanwhile, for those who want to have the functionality now, Google allows you to install Family Link on compatible devices. Check this page to find out!
