Amazon may refresh its Kindle Fire product line up with an updated 7-inch version and a new 9-inch model which are expected to be launched in mid 2012.

According to BGR, Pacific Crest analyst Chad Bartley raised his estimates for Kindle Fire this year from 12.7 million to 14.9 million units, citing a build up in sales from the two new tablets.

BGR - “We believe there is an upward bias, particularly from the new 7- and 9-inch models, which we expect to launch in mid-2012,” Bartley wrote in a note to clients.

The 7-inch Kindle Fire has been a roaring success since its launch in September 2010 as it secured second place in the market for Amazon with 13.8% share of the global media tablet shipments in the fourth quarter of 2011. However, it remains to be seen whether Amazon is able to maintain its momentum in face of increasing competition.

Samsung is expected to launch a high resolution tablet at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012, followed by Apple's unveiling of its next generation iPad in the first week of March. Other Android vendors such as HTC, Acer and Lenovo are also said to be releasing quad-core tablets early this year. Windows 8 tablets will enter the market sometime in the later half of the year too.
